Sweet peas should be planted at least 6 weeks prior to the first frost - for Yucaipa, our first frost is often during Thanksgiving week. Plant in healthy soil, water in well. Fertilize with fish emulsion or another nitrogen source.

Fall planted sweet peas will grow just a few inches in height, and develop a strong root system over winter. When days begin to get longer and soil temperatures increase, the vines will start growing again. We can expect to see the first blooms by the time the last daffodils are blooming. Most prolific blooms around Mothers Day. As temperatures rise in May and June, sweet peas will go to seed. Save your seed to plant again next fall!
