DIY Buckets of Blooms

Designing your own florals for your wedding or special event?

Buying local and sustainably grown, farm-fresh, bulk flowers can be a budget friendly option for brides who have the time and talent to create their own designs. Before you decide, consider the following questions:

Do you have enough time? Consider the time demands of flower pick-up 1-2 days prior to your big day, preparation of arrangements and bouquets, final set-up at your event.

Do you have the ability to store and transport your bouquets and arrangements? You’ll need to transport in a vehicle that can offer climate control (not the back of a pick-up truck) so your flowers don’t wilt in transport. You’ll need access to a cool space to store your flowers (away from direct sunlight, pets, and ripening fruit), before and after arranging them. And then you’ll need to transport them safely, upright in their vessels, with water, to your event space.

Do you have all the tools you’ll need? Clippers, buckets, vases, flower food, and other supplies like wire and ribbon should be factored in to your DIY budget. Floral arranging can be wet and messy work - do you have a workspace to use with access to water?

If you’ve answered YES to all of the above, then designing your own florals with local and sustainably grown flowers might be a great option for you. Hacienda Farms provides buckets of seasonal, fresh cut flowers for do-it-yourself weddings and special events, from July through November. Each $75 bucket contains 60-80 stems in a mix of focal flowers, filler flowers, and foliage.
